We all need to have a private place where to meditate and to connect with our higher self, in order to recharge our batteries and to improve our life balance and well-being. I’ve designed a relaxing meditation corner on the terrace of my apartment in Sydney. This sacred space of mine fills my heart with joy and happiness each time I walk past it. It is here where I do my morning yoga sessions, my daily chants and my peaceful meditations.
You can use your sacred space for any purpose that enlightens you and lifts your spirit, whether your favourite activity is reading, knitting, singing or sleeping. You’ll see how this energy-space is going to contribute to your spiritual development. This peaceful environment will enable you to listen to your soul and ask yourself the right questions. You’ll find the best answers deep inside your unconscious mind. If you live in a very small home, you can create your sacred space in a corner of your bedroom. The main rule in creating your own meditation heaven is that there are no rules. Everything goes, so long as it makes you happy and serene. Put in it some objects you love, and try to make this space feel like bliss. Here are a few ideas to get you started. Feel free to follow your heart, and adjust these ideas to suit your needs and your personal feelings.
-
Choose a place where you feel the best
Consider the lighting of this space and the privacy level it can offer. If people come and go all day long, you may not be able to reach your desired serenity. If you can’t have a separate room, choose a peaceful corner in your house to be your meditation space. If needed, consider putting a bamboo screen, in order to separate it from the rest of the room.
-
Keep it simple and tidy
Choose a few things that make you feel peaceful such as a meditation pillow, a coffee table, a yoga mat and a few candles.
-
Bring nature into your space
Meditation enables you to connect to nature and to your surroundings. By adding some elements of nature, you help adding some harmony and balance to your space. A vase of flowers, a water feature for indoor use or a jar with sand and shells will suffice.
-
Get enlightened by listening to soothing music
You may as well keep silent, but if you live in a busy city, you may want to play some music to help you create an oasis of peace and tranquility in your home. A small fountain might also do just fine, as the sound of water can make the room serene and soothing.
-
Add some wonderful aroma
Incense or aromatic oils or candles can help you maintain your focus and improve your meditation skills. Candles are great, as their flickering flame is meant to help you relax and empty your mind of all mundane things.
-
Make your space personal
In order to have effective meditation sessions, you should add those things that soothe your soul. You may consider bells and chimes, crystals, stones or any piece of artwork that inspires you to dream. You can also paint the walls in your favorite colors.
Unleash your creativity, follow your intuition and create a sacred space to make you feel relaxed and peaceful at heart. If you want, you can send me some photos of your personal space. I’ll put them on my Facebook page for inspiration and praise.
