Antioxidant Antiaging and Free Radical Damage – Dietary Supplements
for Prevention Against Aging and Disease
Since free radicals were discovered, they have been implicated as a major culprit in many diseases.
You can supplement your diet with all natural resources of essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals.
Are You Getting Enough Antioxidants in Your Diet?
With antioxidants you can naturally increase your energy levels by feeding your cells with important minerals,
vitamins and antioxidants. Antioxidants may boost your immune system’s ability to fight off illness.
If you are that person who doesn’t always eat the way you should then consider supplementing an irregular
diet with vital nutrients that might otherwise be lacking.
Antioxidant antiaging products are all the rage and with good reason. Choosing food high in antioxidant helps
the body fight free radicals but all natural antioxidant supplements provide the extra help the body needs
to prevent damage.

Preventing Cancer and Heart Disease – Do Antioxidants Help?
Epidemiologic observations show lower cancer rates in people whose diets are rich in fruits and vegetables.
This has lead to the theory that these diets contain substances, possibly antioxidants, which protect against
the development of cancer.
There is currently intense scientific investigation into this topic. Thus far, none of the large, well designed
studies have shown that dietary supplementation with extra antioxidants reduces the risk of developing cancer.
In fact one study demonstrated an increased risk of lung cancer in male smokers who took antioxidants vs.
male smoker who did not supplement.
Whether this effect was from the antioxidants is unknown but it does raise the issue that antioxidants may
be harmful under certain conditions.
Antioxidants are also thought to have a role in slowing the aging process and preventing heart disease and
strokes, but the data is still inconclusive.
Therefore from a public health perspective it is premature to make recommendations regarding antioxidant supplements
and disease prevention.
New data from ongoing studies will be available in the next few years and will shed more light on this constantly
evolving area. Perhaps the best advice, which comes from several authorities in cancer prevention, is to
eat 5 servings of fruit or vegetables per day.

Sources of Free Radicals
Free radical damage in the body occurs when molecules with an extra electric charge enter the body.
The sun’s rays contain ultraviolet radiation and free radicals result.
Smoking tobacco products is another source of damage.
Necessary medical procedures such as x-rays result in unavoidable free radical damage.
Overheated, overcooked foods can also contain free radicals.
Free radicals can be in the air we breathe due to pollution.
These molecules are simply everywhere! Free radicals play a major role in disease and even cancer.
How to Fight Free Radicals
Is chlorophyll an antioxidant? Yes and eating green foods helps fight aging caused by free radicals.
The dietary properties of chlorophyll are important to balanced meal plans. But often this is not enough.
An antioxidant dietary supplement ensures enough of key enzymes and antioxidants get into the body daily
to battle damage.
When consuming chlorophyll, free radicals harm to the cells is limited, reducing aging or onset of disease.
Antioxidant supplement smoker formulas should be taken daily by anyone with a tobacco habit.
Anyone that consumes more than one drink of alcohol daily should take an antioxidant booster. Sun worshipers
should fight damage both through food choices and antioxidant prevention against aging.
SOD and Green Superfoods
Superoxide dismutase, SOD, is an amazing antioxidant enzyme which can neutralize free radicals.
However, the molecule is too large to be easily absorbed from normal food intake. Broccoli, cabbage, barley
grass are good natural SOD sources and contain other vitamins and minerals.
Green superfood dietary supplements, however, ensure that the body obtains SOD in a form easy to utilize.
Take an antioxidant and free radical damage will be reduced. Antioxidant antiaging products that contain blends
of green superfoods taken daily make a real difference in health and vitality.

Another View – Can Antioxidants Lower Cancer Risks?
A warning was issued on the website cancer.org about
taking supplements, including antioxidant supplements, if you have been diagnosed with cancer.
They say the jury is still out on whether such supplements are harmful or helpful in cancer scenarios and
warm that some supplements could reduce the effectiveness of chemotherapy and/or radiation.
I do think it is always important to talk to your doctor, if you are under care for a serious condition such
as cancer. I only hope you choose a healthcare professional who is also aware of and educated about the benefits
of supplement nutrition.
Unfortunately, it seems that so many doctors are not well-trained in herbal, nutritional and natural supplement
properties.
Maybe they are so focused on medical procedure that it is just easier for them to tell a patient not to take
anything at all. Which does not help with ridding your body of the toxicity it is bombarded by, rather wouldn’t
it be useful to understand what would be beneficial during chemo or radiation? – worth reflecting on.
