Joint Commission Accreditation

UF Health Florida Recovery Center is accredited by The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission standards are the basis of an objective evaluation process that can help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The standards focus on important patient, individual or resident care, and organization functions that are essential to providing safe, high quality care. The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards set expectations for organization performance that are reasonable, achievable and surveyable.

Dual Diagnoses

Substance abuse and mental health disorders are often linked — a condition known as dual diagnosis — and at Florida Recovery Center we believe that both substance abuse and the underlying mental health concerns of a dual diagnosis must be treated to achieve lasting recovery.

As part of the UF Health academic medical system and a program within the UF Department of Psychiatry, Florida Recovery Center is uniquely positioned to provide people seeking recovery with access to leading-edge research and multidisciplinary care to address dual diagnoses disorders. The treatment team and physicians, many of whom are double board certified in addiction medicine and psychiatry, are experts in managing a range of dual disorders, including:

  • Acute addiction episodes
  • Detoxification from multiple drugs
  • Management of chronic pain
  • Mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and PTSD

Florida Recovery Center’s partial hospitalization program is structured so that patients see their physician every week to review progress, medication and treatment needs. Where appropriate, the physician may recommend evidenced-based, psychiatric approaches to treating mental health disorders. These including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), which may take place in group and/or individual sessions.

It is not uncommon for individuals with substance abuse disorders to also struggle with other compulsive behaviors similar to addiction, sometimes referred to as process addictions – these might include gambling, gaming, shopping, sex or eating disorders. While the treatment team can address these behaviors in conjunction with substance abuse, if the behaviors are identified as the primary concern our team may decide to refer the patient to another treatment facility.

With the care of your treatment team, recommendations can be made for other services located at one of our other convenient outpatient locations. A few common treatments available include:
