Aloe Vera Skin Care Recipes and Facts

Health Benefits of Aloe Vera - Information on Aloe Vera (Barbadenis)

There are over 200 different types of aloe vera plants but only four of those types are considered valuable as a health supplement or are used in aloe vera natural health products.

The more mature the aloe plant, the more benefit nutritionally or medicinally. Aloe Vera gel is widely used as a balm for bruises, cuts, insect bites, burns and rashes. The health benefits of Aloe Vera have been known for a long time. There is historical documentation indicating the use of the healing properties of Aloe Vera as far back as 1,500 BC. Supposedly, aloe was a beauty secret of the legendary beauty Cleopatra and it is mentioned in the bible several times as well.

Benefits of Drinking Aloe Vera

The amazing healing and medicinal properties of this plant extend to benefit the skin. By drinking two to four ounces, or even up to 1/2 cup of aloe juice each day the skin gets a boost to help clear blemishes and improve skin quality. This is partly due to the balancing and toning effect that aloe juice has on the intestinal tract.

Aloe Vera Skin Benefits for Treatments of Acne and Oily Skin

During the day your face is exposed to pollutants, dirt, and other environmental elements. If you have acne or oily skin it is important to use a cotton pad dampened with a non-drying toner after outdoor exposure. A good choice is aloe for its healing properties. This is because the irritants floating in the air adhere to oily skin and can cause blemishes as well as aggravate problem skin. Aloe's pH restores the skin's balance while it cleanses making it an excellent toner for blemished skin. It can be left on, or rinsed off with clear water. Dry skin or sensitive skin may need aloe diluted 50/50 with water or it may have a drying effect when used as a toner.

Aloe vera for oily skin can also be used in a home made facial mask recipe. Mix:

  • 1 teaspoon clay
  • 1 teaspoon aloe vera juice
  • 1 teaspoon witch hazel
  • enough water to make a paste
  • add 1 drop of essential tea tree oil
  • 1 drop of essential oil of lavender
  • 1 drop of oil of peppermint

Once mixed, apply to clean skin for 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water and follow with a cool splash of water. Air dry, or gently blot dry.

If you want to another natural aloe vera skin care recipe that helps oily skin or skin blemishes combine aloe juice that is the consistency of water with a drop of refreshing essential oil and use as a mist throughout the day.

I am glad to see the results are well seen with Aloe Vera. I have seen some products at my local heath store with Aloe Vera and was just wondering if this was as effective as using the gel from the plant.

Hi Andrewandros, yes some of these products can be very effective. You need to read the label and find a product that is at least 99 percent pure for skin applications. There are also some very good brands of drinkable aloe out there.
