men's health issuesProstateZyme contains only pure plant products:

Ho-Shou-Wu (FO-TI): Exerts a rejuvenating influence upon the endocrine glands which in turn strengthens the body. It acts as a tonic and nutritive herb. Fo-Ti is an excellent digestive tonic and one of the most popular herbal tonics in China among the elderly. Research on the plant shows that it lowers blood cholesterol levels. It has been found to reduce hypertension and the incidence of coronary heart disease among individuals prone to that condition. In a report by the American Herbal Pharmacology Delegation, Fo-Ti was proven useful for liver and spleen weakness.

Siberian Ginseng: This herb has many uses and is in this formulation because of its positive effects on the nervous system. It protects the nervous system from stress, promotes physical and mental efficiency, sound metabolic function, balanced blood pressure and stabilized glucose levels. In short, Ginseng does it all. Siberian Ginseng has also been known to increase gastrointestinal movement and tone and increase iron metabolism.

Licorice Root: This herb is included in the formulation in order to help control any inflammation of the prostate and the other organs. Additionally, since it modulates estrogen action, it consequentially improves symptoms of PMS, such as depression, sugar cravings, water retention, and breast tenderness. Although licorice acts as cortisol in controlling inflammation, it also minimizes the side effects of excess cortisol. Other benefits of licorice include support of the liver, soothing of GI tract ulcers, and alleviation of skin disorders, cancer sores, and other viral-induced disorders.

Saw Palmetto: This herb is valuable in feeding the reproductive organs, ovaries, prostate and testes. Recent studies have shown that saw palmetto can help control BPH (benign prostate hyperplasia) and frequent urination due to prostate disorders. Other applications include the control of androgens in females, which prevents hirsutism and polycystic ovarian disorders. Saw palmetto promotes the overall health of the reproductive system.

Gingko Biloba (leaf) Extract: This herb has only been in use since 1988. Scientific research shows it to be another preventive medicine. It is able to work on the nerve centers, to increase brain circulation, and to generally reactivate the well-being of the body. Testing has shown Gingko to be a remarkable inhibitor of the lipid peroxidation of membranes (membrane penetration), and it is widely used in products to deliver oxygen to the brain via the blood system. Studies also show it to be a longevity aid.

Pygeum (africanum): This herb has been used to support the prostate and to improve male fertility and virility. In some studies, pygeum appears to be more effective than saw palmetto in controlling prostate problems. However, pygeum and saw palmetto work together to provide synergistic benefits to the reproductive organs.

Flaxseed: Flaxseed contains several lignans together with essential fatty acids. It has been shown to have anti-cancer benefits. In addition, its anti-inflammatory action serves to control prostate problems, to lower cholesterol, and to prevent platelet aggregation.

Hello, I'm a 58 year old single man. I've had prostatis for several years. Today, after a prostate exam by a VA doctor, as I'm a Vietnam era vet, told me that one side of my prostate is inflamed the other side is hard. I eat organic vegetarian, take vitamin supplements including 600 Prostate Maintain by Nature's Life and Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Beside gout and this prostatitis, I'm pretty healthy not to subject to colds, etc. Also, I've been taking Saw Palmetto daily for several years, seemingly to no avail.....?! He's prescribed for me to take twice a day 500mg of Ciprofloxacin HCL. As you're probably aware, this is an antibiotic. I'm concerned about taking this. I'm also concerned about developing prostate cancer as my Dad has it. He's 90 though it doesn't seem to be giving him any problems that I"m aware of. Any problem with me taking the prostatezyme along with this anti-biotic? Any other suggestions? Comments? Questions? Thank you! Andrew Rosenthal

Dear Andrew Rosenthal, Chronic prostatitis or inflammation of the prostate gland can have many different causes. There is much confusion even amongst the medical professionals as to the cause and the effective treatment for this problem. Usually, the first thing that a doctor will do is to diagnose you with bacterial or non-bacterial prostatitis. Hopefully, he will do extensive testing and cultures to ascertain the status of your situation. Then, as a first line of treatment, he will prescribe an antibiotic such as Ciprofloxacin such as you described above. So, instead of telling you what you should take for your particular situation, I will point you to an wonderful website which will give you all the information that you may need about prostatitis. Here you can learn about the contraindications and side effects of this antibiotic and other drugs, the pros and cons of taking it, and then determine if it is right for you to take. Also, on this website, you will find many different treatments mentioned and may want to look into one that may best suit your situation. Instead of telling you what will be best to take for your situation, I am going to point you in the direction of a wonderful website. This site is www.prostatitis.org and I am sure that you will find lots of answers to your questions there. You might want to take the ProstateZyme and the antibiotic separately, rather than together, just to make sure that you do not have an interaction between these two medications. Good luck in your quest.
