In the otherwise healthy person, a short term rapid weight loss program such as the one presented on this page can help to stimulate initial weight loss but do not be deceived. You need to change your lifestyle for weight loss to be permanent, if extra weight has been a chronic problem for you. Also, because this particular 10-day plan emphasizes meat and butter, it would not be appropriate, obviously, for anyone with heart problems.

We feel that carb-sparing diets that are as severe as this one should never been taken over a week to 10 days. To learn more about the wholistic approach to weight loss, visit our Lose Weight by Getting Healthy page.

Detoxing before such a fast-start diet can dramatically increase your results and also, detox is just a good tool for stimulating weight loss and more energy. Receive detox nutritional support here.

As we detail in our site-wide disclaimer, you should not start a detox or a diet change without consulting your health professional.

The Benefits of Home Exercise

We all would like to lose weight and get in shape with a minimal effort. That's how the fitness informercial makes billions per year, promising miraculous results without breaking a sweat.

If you are not fooled by their claims then you know you have to work at getting in shape and losing unwanted pounds. So where do you go for a challenging workout? If you are into walking and running, during the temperate seasons you can get your cardio exercise in the great outdoors. Read more about designing a home gym.

Body Building

Tony Horton won acclaim with his fitness techniques, which appeared in Men's Fitness Magazine and established Tony as an on-camera presence as the spokesperson for Nordic Track. Then, in the late 90's, Tony was retained by a major Hollywood studio to condition the entire cast of the motion picture The 13th Warrior.

Tips to Make Your Weight Loss Permanent

Don't just lose 10 pounds. Keep it off. Or lose more and keep it off. Infact you might want to join a weight loss program where you receive personal support if you have more than 25 pounds to lose before you reach your ideal weight.

Another resource that might help you is listening to subliminal, paraliminal, or self-hypnosis weight loss CD's. This will help you consciously and subconsciously decide you want to reach and maintain your idea weight. For your conscious mind, declare "With each moment that passes, I am reaching and maintaining my ideal weight!" Repeat this personal declaration every day. Then use a program that reaches your subconscious with suggestive messages.

These types of programs are designed to help automatically adjust the amount and types of food you eat and make a concerted effort to change your lifestyle around eating. Most also suggest you become more active, such as parking further from the grocery store so you can walk a little more or use the stairs instead of an elevator when you have just one or two flights. Of course, the more you do, the better you will feel.

Also, learn to accept weight loss in small doses. Permanent and ideal weight loss works best when you lose one percent of your weight each week. Going for more weight loss often is the recipe for weight gain in the future. Go slow and steady and you will be able to reach your ideal weight, and maintain it for the course for your life!

How do I lose weight fast?

I weigh 146 pounds and would like to know how I can lose 10-20 pounds fast. Losing 10 pounds in 10 days sounds really good, but how?

I am a 14 year old kid...Ever since second grade i hate been picked on for being over weight. Its not fair. All foods look good to me. I am a HUGE fan of Sam's Choice [coke] and i don't see that i can stop drinking it out of the blue. I might need a little help and reminding to finish and stick to my diet. Even my parents think that i need to lose like 10-15 pounds. I hate the way i look. I wear 2 piece bathing suits and i hate wearing them in public. They are the only types of bathing suits that i can wear, I cant find any one pieces in my size. Summer is for fun in the sun, getting a nice tan, and losing weight and getting fit. I have tried like 23 different types of weight loss programs and diets. None of them worked out for me. I never have been able to lose weight and keep it off. This one sounds reassuring. Please if you have any advice or can help me with my problem...please get back to me. Shelby [:

Hello, I am a 41 year old female and in the past three years I have gained so much weight that I am so unhappy with myself. I have doctors check me out and there is no medical reason I cannot lose weight. I have tried every diet and diet pill. Can you please make some suggestions that may help me lose weight? My normal body weight was 135-137 and now I am at 250. Please help me find a solution to my problem.

Dear Katie and Donna McQuade and adri, There is a lot of useful information on this page, however, I feel that it is not really healthy for most people to concentrate on losing weight really fast. It is best to begin a diet and exercise program which is regular and consistent, thus changing your entire lifestyle rather than just temporarily following a diet regimen then sliding quickly back into your old habits of eating and sporadic or no exercise. Go to the following web page, where hopefully you will find more weight loss information and some of my answers to being consistent and regular in your endeavors and concentrating upon staying healthy rather than losing weight: Fat Burning Secrets Best regards, Dr. Leia

I'm 14 years old I'm constantly thinking I'm fat. I eat healthy and do exercise but don't seem to lose weight. Its getting me down at school now like in PE when every one's wearing dead skinny clothes and then there's me in size 10-1/2. I know you'll probably think i don't need to, but I do. I'm sick and tired of thinking I look fat making myself sick after meals, so I don't put the weight. On please help, Emily.

Dear Shelby, Wow! Trying 23 types of weight loss programs and diets is a lot! As you may have found out already, the issue is not about losing weight and dieting that will get you to where you want to be and to the right and perfect weight for you to feel good about yourself and your body. In order to do that, you will need to change your entire lifestyle and attitude about yourself and your body. You will first have to accept yourself and your body at the place where you are right now. You may also find that when you accept yourself then your friends will notice your confidence and will also begin to accept you the way you are. After accepting that your body type may not be the kind of body that will ever be super thin or slender as all the movie stars or even some of your friends, then you can begin to take better care of yourself and your body, instead of efforting to lose weight. With this new attitude of taking better care of yourself and your body, you will want to find out what foods are healthy and good to eat and begin to choose your food selections more wisely. This may mean finding a substitute for your coke and replacing it with more water to help flush out the toxins and fat from your body and may even help you to lose weight. Also, as you explore healthy food, your body will begin to crave more of it and less of the unhealthy foods which may be high in sugar and greasy fried foods or empty calorie snack foods. Please read my answer to Sarah on this page: Weight Loss Motivation. Hopefully, this advice will be of some use to you and assist you on your journey to having more fun with your exercise and diet routine and enable you to enjoy your life more. Remember, it is not about trying to lose weight, but it is more about taking better care of your body so that it will serve you to enjoy life for many more years to come. Also, with regular, disciplined exercise, your body will become and look more toned, and being toned does not necessarily mean that your body will weigh less because a toned body has more muscle which weighs more than fat. And a toned body is a healthy body!

Dear Chastity, Hypertension or high blood pressure indicates that there may be a circulatory problem which could involve either the heart or kidneys. It may be an indication that your arteries are blocked due to atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries, which usually takes many years to develop, or it may be due to a kidney problem. Please ask your doctors to do more extensive testing on you, and it is perfectly ok to seek out a second or third opinion from other doctors. You indicate that you are currently eating a healthy diet and that you are getting adequate exercise and aerobics. You might like to seek out a fitness expert coach with the recommendation of your doctor, to assist you in your exercise and diet program to see if you are doing everything correctly. The added weight you have gained is serious and is putting excess stress on your organs, especially your heart and circulatory system and if you were to lose weight, then your blood pressure might return to normal. It is imperative that you have the help of an expert in this manner, rather than trying to lose weight on your own. Good luck in your search for a fitness coach.

Dear Cristin, I am going to suggest that you seek out a professional weight loss and exercise coach, recommended by your doctor, who will assist you in accessing your diet and exercise program rather trying to lose weight by yourself. As you have found out by yourself, trying every diet and diet pill that comes to your attention will not work. Since each person has an individual body chemistry, an individualized program is needed. This professional should be able to closely work with your doctor and to monitor your blood pressure and have regular check-ups as per your doctor's suggestions. Since your body weight is double your normal weight, it is imperative that you check with your doctor before trying any fad diets or exercise programs. Good luck with your quest.

Dear Emily, I know that you may think that you are fat, but there are many different sizes and shapes of body types around. Some of us should never try to wear dead skinny type clothes because our bodies are not designed to be skinny. Size 10-1/2 may seem large to you, but in reality it is normal sized. Development occurs at different rates for different girls, and you might be developing faster than some of your other friends. A healthy body is one that is toned and strong, so instead of trying to lose weight and look skinny, you might want to get involved in sports and keep fit by exercising with the volleyball team or another sport which you might enjoy. Becoming active in a sport will also help you in your co-ordination and body image. You will feel strong and healthy. Instead of making yourself sick after eating( this can be a serious problem and lead to emaciation, anorexia, bulemia, and heart problems and organ failure), you should take a walk or get involved in a regular exercise program. Sometimes walking the dog after dinner can be invigorating and make you feel better about your body. The secret is to get active and have regular exercise and keep your body moving. Please read my reply to Shelby above. And good luck in feeling better about yourself. Your health depends upon it! And you might want to seek a counselor to talk to about your feeling of being fat. Here is a good website which works with unwanted emotions such as the feeling of being fat: www.emofree.com. On this web site, you can watch a video and follow along with a fun and effective self-help technique which will make you feel better about yourself.

Dear Christina and Emma M, Please see my reply to Emily and Shelby above. Both of you would do well to work on accepting where you are right now, so that it will be FUN to be active and learn to eat healthy. Beating yourself up with dieting and puking will not be the answer to losing weight. It will only make you sick and may even make you gain more weight. Please read the answers carefully and check out the links I mentioned. And please be kind to yourself.

Hi, I am 14 years old I weigh 215 lbs. I am 5'6" and I can't seem to lose any weight right now. I exercise every day. I lose some but not much. I am trying to decide should I give up food and not eat at all or just eat fruit? I want to lose 50 pounds or more.

Hi, I'm Rachel. I'm 15 years old. I'm about 5'6" and I weigh 150 pounds. I was never one of those skinny kids. I always have a small Buddha belly but was always self conscious of it. Now that I look back on the photos of me. Well, it wasn't anything at all, I was like a normal kid, but now that I'm older that little Buddha belly has spread like an infectious disease. I hate the way I look. I have fat on my face, my Buddha belly (of course) the back side of me arm, my large love handles, my upper thigh/butt area over my rib cage, and even my calves have gotten flabby. I am always setting out to find new ways to shed about 30 pounds, because that's how much I would love to lose. But every plan I have, work out in the morning and not eat as much, goes down the drain. The problem is that I love food too much and I hate exercising for long periods of time. My mother Insists on not paying for any sort of fitness program and it's not like I have any money of my own. All I want is a simple but effective plan that will help me lose ten pounds per week. Please think of something for me. I have so many embarrassing stories about my weight. One time I was at a pool party and we were going to play chicken. This one guy told me to get on his shoulders, I hesitated at first but then I got on. I practically drowned him. He's my friend and now I don't even talk to him anymore. This is so bad and lately I have found myself worrying about it more and more. Please, it's summer now and I want to at least look good in a one piece. By losing 30 pounds I know it would change my entire lifestyle. Just please help me. Send me a plan. Anything. I don't know how much longer I can take of this. It hurts too much. And because of my problem I am becoming more and more depressed everyday. Please help. Quickly.

Hey, I'm Rachel, I'm 15 and about to be 16 in less then a month. I'm currently 5'4' and weigh 137 pounds. I'm not happy with how I look, I know I'm not fat but I'm just a little bit heavier then I would like to be. My goal would be 125-120. my problem is that I want it gone fast. I live in a town where you go to the beach everyday and I don't want to feel insecure around all my friends and feel I have to cover my body to hide it from other people. Last summer I was in shape, so I know it's possible. I went through a rough year and put on some weight. How can I get it back off quickly, like loose 10 in 10 days?

Hello, I am Liza and I am 16 years old. I am about 5'5" and weigh over 200 lbs. I feel horrible, I am always tired, and I constantly remind myself how much better I would feel if I didn't look the way I do. I understand already that I need to build confidence in myself to lose weight in the first place, like you told the 14-year-old girl. I have so many dreams; I have a wonderful voice and would like people to hear it in my future. However, I cannot see myself with a music career looking the way I look. I understand what I have to do to lose weight, but I can't seem to stay on a diet. When I don't lose the weight right away, I get depressed and turn to food. I want to live the lives that other teenage girls live. I want to go on dates, look cute in a bikini, and be lively with my friends. Please help me.

I have an eating problem, and I don't know how to stop. I just want to lose as much weight as fast as I possibly can and I don't know what to do. At 18 years old my weight has become one of my top worries and as a teen it shouldn't be. I always stay the same weight for a couple months which is good, then I gain a few pounds and stay there for a couple months. Please Help!

I have been on my own low carbohydrate diet. When I worked out as much as I could, and I tried following someone else's diet plan, it never worked for me. On my own diet I lost 5 lbs in my 1st week. It was hard dieting because of my horrible eating habits. But with just cutting soda and chips out of your diet with a small workout, you'll see a big difference in the way you feel and look. It's so hard for me to keep a steady weight because I play sports, work, and go to school. Food is hard to get to sometimes, so I go to whatever I see first. I hate the feeling of eating too much and thinking I have to work out, people sit there and say they can't lose weight. You won't know until you try. It takes effort.

I am a 23 year old college senior who has struggled with her weight for four years. I am now at my heaviest, and I feel the discomfort. I know that my eating habits are affecting my life and my ability to do the things that I love. I have joined weight watchers more than I care to admit, and I am sick of crash dieting. I need help and advice. I am contemplating on joining the good old weight watchers again, but I want a permanent lifestyle change, I know that dieting is not a quick fix. Do you have any good recommendations for someone in a college atmosphere? What is the best way to go for someone who abhors too much structure but desperately needs some?

Hi, My name is Maria. I am 19 years old and I'm trying to figure out how to lose a little bit of weight. I'm 5'2" and I weigh about 132. I know that's in the normal range, but I have a very petite build. I had a baby about 10 months ago and I didn't lose all of the weight that I had gained. I run every morning for an hour and work out every other day. I do eat healthy. I only eat whole grains and fresh fruits and veggies, but I can't seem to tone my body and shed those last few pounds. I don't know what more I can do. I'm very active. I go for three walks a day with my son, and we go swimming almost every day. I even do extra runs with my husband. I just don't know what to do from this point. If you could let me know if I should take some vitamins or a special cleansing diet, I could try it. I just need to shed like 7-10 pounds. Thank you.

HI, I'm 20 yrs old. I am 5'11 and weigh 160 pounds. I need to lose 20 pounds because I want to enter a modeling competition. I was told by the organizers that most models my height weigh 130-135 pounds. That does not seem healthy at all to me. I did not think I was big at all, but I guess in the modeling world I am a bit over weight. Please, before I even start to loose the weight, I just need to know if weighing 135 pounds at 5'11-6'0 is at all healthy. I feel that that weight might actually be dangerous.

Hi, I'm 19 years old. In three months I'll be twenty. I weigh about 225. It’s horrible, in the last year and five months, I have gained about sixty five pounds. I'm 5'5 I used to be OK with 150 pounds. In High school I was in Varsity Cheer and was very active. Then I graduated and all activity stopped. I got a job at an office sitting for 8 hours. I work every day 12:30 to 9pm and in the morning I go to school. My drive home from work is about forty minutes. By the time I get home, it’s late and I have tons of homework to do. I get little sleep and it's totally different then what my life was when I was in high school. Gaining sixty five pounds, in a little over a year, has been horrible. I don't look like I did. It's not me. I don't know how much longer I can take this. I need help; my body is deforming, and I no longer feel good in any cloths. Please help.

Hi, Lizette. Physical exercise is very important. I hope that you can work some activities into your busy schedule. If you cannot consider trying to get at least twenty minutes of exercise a day where you get your heart rate up. You could climb the stairs on campus between classes or fast walk. Also, consider cutting out comfort foods that are so easy to get on campus. You know like soda pop, candy, coffee drinks, and chips. Bring your own healthy snacks instead and keep track of what you eat. It is so easy to start studying and absentmindedly eat an entire bag of chips. Oh, and don't forget to read the serving size. They are always so much smaller than we would imagine.

I am twenty four year old stay at home mother of two. I have been chubby since the sixth grade and have always hated my body. Since I have had kids, any weight that I have gained seems to be hard to lose. Now instead of being just chubby, I am fat. My boyfriend makes it hard for me to want to lose weight, because he is set on eating a certain way. He is a country fella and diet is a curse word in his vocabulary. The greasier the food is, the better the food is. He insists on eating this way and is not willing to change his diet, even though he is overweight as well. I am gonna try your plan and if I see results, maybe he'll do it as well.

Guys, if theres one thing not to do it is starving yourself. Your body thinks you are literally starving and will die, in effort to protect you it slows down your metabolism and stores extra body fat so you can live longer. Now when you start to eat again you really pack on the pounds, its your body going into survival mode. You should eat many small meals per day. Hope this helps.

My name is Natasha, I'm 26 years old, and I've been obese my entire life. I have been on every weight loss plan you can imagine. When I was 12-15 I was on Lindora. They prescribed an appetite suppressant to me, and I lost 50 lbs. Unfortunately, it all came back. I have done Nutrisystem, the Hollywood diet, Atkins, South Beach, Curves diet plan, Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers. All have helped me lose weight, and all have proven to be short term. In the past eight months, I have lost 80 lbs. For the first time in my entire life, I know I'm going to keep the weight off. The reason is because, I worked really hard. I changed my life, and my way of thinking. It's all common sense, and every single one of you can do it too. I eat three well balanced meals a day, not going over 350 calories each meal, and I eat a 100 calorie pack snack in the middle of the day, and a 100 calorie dessert. I work out five times a week at curves, and I am training for a half marathon. The half marathon sounds a lot fancier than it really is. Anyone can do it. Look up "half marathon training for beginners" in a Google search. You start out slow, and work your way up to being able to jog a full thirty minutes. You will feel a sense of accomplishment after each session. Look, I know the thought of exercising is horrific to some of you. It was to me too. But you will never maintain a healthy weight until you commit to a regular exercise routine. It's difficult at first, but after about a week, you will feel better than you've ever felt in your entire life. I promise you. Working out not only produces awesome physical results, I went from a size 28 to a size 16, but you will feel great mentally as well. If you would like more information you can go to destination7project. I hope you all reach your weight loss goals in the healthiest way possible.

OK So, I'm 17, Female, and very over weight. I haven't gotten on a scale in for ever. The last time I did, I weighed like 280 pounds. Yes, I am disappointed in myself. But, I've always been fat. My whole life I've been fat. I've been made fun of constantly, and I get over it. But then some times it's still there. I know it's my fault for being this big, but I guess food is what I turn to. I don't know how to explain it. I am a size 22-24. I have skinny friends, and every time we go to the mall they go in to these awesome shops and buy Hollister and Abercrombie shirts and jeans. When I step in to a shop like that, I get looked at. I obviously cant buy any thing from a place like that and I hate that feeling. I've never had a boy friend. Maybe liking girls is the way to go. I used to play soft ball, and I liked it a lot. Then my sophomore year, I was judge by my coach, saying that I was to big to play. He really scared me. I think then is when I realized that I needed to do some thing. And I did. I went on a diet, but it didn't last at all. Now, I want to change. I just recently found out that I have high blood pressure and I might even have diabetes. I'm scarred and I don't want to die because Ive eaten too much in my life. I need some support. I want to achieve a goal. I know I can do it. I need to stick to it. It is time, and I think I am ready.

Hello, I am 17 and have struggled with my weight since I was 8 or 9 years old. It has caused confidence issues, low self-esteem, and all that jazz. My heaviest weight was 180 at age 14, since then it has been a constant battle because of my love of food. Many diet plans later, I had reached 165 lbs at 5'6" and was a size 13 last year. However, between Feb. and May of this year I inexplicably began to lose a great deal of weight. Well, lose a lot, gained some back, then lost some more in a cycle until I had lost 15 lbs. Of course, it was not through diet or exercise but through a loss of appetite. It all seems rather unhealthy now. My appetite came back at full force in the end, and I had to start working for my weight. Since then I have had this golden goal of reaching 120lbs. All my efforts over the summer failed. However in Sept., I started a regimented diet of fruits, veggies, green tea, yogurt, and lean meat. I would reward myself with an occasional sweet. I exercised daily through working out, bicycling, hiking and yoga. I'd gotten to 126lbs in early Nov. and was very proud of myself. However, with the holidays happening and even more coming up, I've begun to let myself slip and have gained at least 9lbs in the the past 2 weeks. Is that even physically possible? I don't usually eat junk, haven't even touched fast food in months, but I have a terrible sweet tooth. I can't seem to cut sugar back out of my diet. Now I'm getting depressed and am afraid if I don't do something all my hard work will go down the drain. I'm starting to see fat pop back up on my toned legs, arms and even more than the usual ab flab. So, can I really lose 10lbs in 10 days? Or better yet, do you have any solutions for my chocolate, sugar, carb cravings so that I can get back on my own regimented diet?

I'm 25 and have had weight problems since 13. The most I weighed was 91kilos. I am now 68kilos. I've lost some 10kilos within two weeks which was a few months back by eating only tomatoes, yogurts, soy bean milk , and tea. The effect on my brain is very bad. I had confusions, depression and was sicked most of the time after the weight loss. But I'm lighter. I have tried many weight loss programs they never worked. I realized, it's about how our mind works. I feel that as long as we are determined enough, we shall achieve what we long for. Exercise and eating right is the best way. You are what you eat. If you want results don't be lazy.

Hi, I'm Wendy. I'm 31 yrs. old and 5'4", 200 lbs. My Body Mass Index is 35. I should weigh around 130 lbs. I have a heart condition that requires me to take a beta-blocker and a benzodiazapine. My question is how can I lose the 70lbs. in a healthy way being on medications and not being able to do cardiovascular low or high impact exercise? After my daughter was born I lost 50lbs., and then I had a tumor removed out of my spine and had to use steroids, and the pain keeps me from losing the weight again. Can you give me a healthy, sensible way to lose weight?

I have just returned back from India, I was there for 10 months and before I left I weighed 184 lbs. I'm 4"11'. I now weigh 132 and it has been steady for the past 56 months. I drink water, I have cut out my soda addiction, I try to watch my eating of sweets and real fatty foods, although I still eat what I like. I have learned a lot of the time when I think I am hungry I am just thirsty. So try drinking water. I lost 15 lbs my first month drinking lots of water. You will be surprised what this can do for you. I have recently started a black salt, lemon, and hot water routine as well . My mom has been doing this for 2 months and has lost almost 25 lbs. You combine 5 grams of natural black salt, we got ours from India, and a glass of hot or warm water and a lemon squeezed. It smells gross. But you get used to it. You will not notice anything for a week or two, but after that when you drink it your body will start releasing toxins and cleaning you out. Now the secret is you must drink this as soon as you wake up, before you eat or drink anything. Good luck to all you ladies, I know weight loss is a struggle, but I would recommend a slow and steady pace and don't be too hard on yourself.

I can relate to many of the comments on here. I have struggled with my weight since I was about 5 years old, always being heavier than the kids in my classes. In 5th grade, I weighed over 180lbs and in 8th and 9th grade I was able to lose about 30. Then it just kept going up and down. I currently weigh around 220 and I'm 5'8". This is the heaviest I have ever been in my life, and I am beyond depressed. I have tried so many diet and exercise plans. The most recent one, eating salads, whole wheat foods, chicken breasts, fish, unsweetened applesauce, yogurt, and other healthy foods, averaging 1300 calories a day, walking about 30 minutes each day and lifting weights 3-4 times a week, along with workout videos 3-4 times a week, I gained 10 lbs. Go figure. I'm so depressed. It's like the harder I work, the worse it is. I've had my thyroid checked and it's fine, but my doctors can't figure out what is wrong with me. I'm losing hope. Any suggestions as to what I might do?

Amber, has your body fat ratio changed? Weight is only one part of the equation. As you put on muscle you will gain weight. This is good because it helps you burns calories faster. I would continue with your program and try to use the tape measure more than the scale.

I'm a 20 year old girl who weighs 141 pounds, and I am 5'3. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week for a cardiovascular workout as well as strength training. I can tell that I am gaining muscle, but it seems as though I'm not burning any fat. For breakfast I eat a bowl of organic Kashi cereal. At school I usually eat some yogurt, an apple, and vegetarian chili for lunch, then later an old school dinner consisting of meat, usually chicken, and vegetables or a Greek salad. I don't drink soda and rarely eat junk food, yet I can't get the fat off. Do you have any advice? Thanks, Deanna.

Hi, I was wondering what was the best way for me to lose weight fast and still be an athlete. I am 5' 10" and 155lbs. I have all that fat around my hips and really need to loose it fast, but I can't stop eating, or just eat small amounts. I am active for at least 2hrs a day. I also live at school and am not allowed to have a fridge in my room, so I need to be able to do this at the school cafeteria. I don't consume candy, soda, or fried food either. Every time I try to diet I get super hungry.

When I was 12 years old I weighed 161 lbs. I don't ever remember thinking I was fat, until one day I looked in the mirror, and I didn't like what I saw. So, I asked my mom to help me. My mom has always been thin and a healthy eater. I started by eating three good meals a day. I ate much smaller portions and no seconds. I cut out sugar drinks and drank a lot of water, unsweetened tea, etc. I didn't eat late at night, and had one small sweet thing a day. On my 13th birthday, 4 months later, I had lost 21 lbs., and was feeling much better about myself. Since then I have lost another 10 lbs. I will be turning 17 in two weeks, and I now weigh 130 lbs. I am 5'6". I have kept my weight off for almost 4 years now. Losing weight is something you have to do over time. It is a life style change, not a two week fad diet. I can still eat the things that I like, but just in moderate portions. If it worked for me, it'll work for you.

Hi, I'm 16, and I weight about 160lbs and I am 5"7'. I'm home schooled and don't get much exercise, I haven't really been on a diet before, last year I just did some sport everyday and lost about 15pounds in a few months. It was really hard without changing my diet. But this summer while on vacation, I gained weight and spent my time hiding when my friends where under the sun. I'm scared of changing my diet since I live with my parents who are overweight. It's very tempting to slip. I physically don't look that fat. I just have big hips, but I still weight a lot. I try and try to change but always fall back. I might be moving to America soon and going to a high school scares me a lot. Thinking I might be rejected like I was where I used to go to school. It's very hard for me since my parents make me feel low always criticizing my weight. I don't know what to do and being alone make me even more mad. When the only person I see is myself.

Hi Nikki, I wouldn't worry about being accepted because of your weight. Here in America you would be pretty average. It would be nice if you could ask your parents about getting out more. Have you thought about joining a walking or biking club like Volks Sports. They are an international club with people of all ages. It is fun to help set up the events and participate. They also do a good deal of charity work. It would be a good way to get out and get some exercise and also meet people.

Hi, I'll be 21 next month, I'm 5 feet tall and 133 pounds. I've lost about 4 pounds in 6 months so slowly. I only want to lose about 10 more pounds, but I'd like to lose at a decent pace of even just 1 pound a week. I've been trying to cut my calorie intake but I'm always so hungry. Do you recommend an appetite suppressant like Hoodia? What else curbs hunger?

Hi, I'm 18 years old and I'm a college student. I weigh 209lbs, and I am 5ft. 8 inches tall. My body distributes pretty evenly, thankfully. I want to know is there are any tips you can give me to lose weight? I lost 30lbs in about 3 1/2 months when I was in Africa. I really need to get under 200 and it's getting difficult. Also because I don't have a kitchen at school and everything you can get to eat has to be purchased pre-packaged or semi-fresh, you basically can't make anything on your own. Any advice.

Samira, if you can have a small refrigerator in your dorm room it would be helpful. You could them keep things like fresh fruit and vegetables handy for snacks. This would keep you from eating the usual campus comfort junk foods. The raw fruits and veggies have a good deal of fiber and this will help make you feel fuller.

I am a 14 year old, and I have always been picked on for my weight, but now I am trying this plan. I am going to journal everyday for six weeks and will weigh myself on the same date and same time. I have journaled today just saying what I ate and did today. So each Tuesday, I will be checking to see if my weight has gone down. I suggest others should do this also and stick with it for 6 weeks. Keep your chin up and take a picture of yourself when you start and on the last day of the 6 weeks. I will be updating my journals to show you what I am doing and if I had lost any weight. I weigh today, 4-1-08 about 227.0 pounds. I will keep in touch every week on Tuesday to tell you how everything is going.

Hi I am 15 years old and weight 190 pounds, I used to weight 150 pounds but then my doctor made a mistake and put me on the Depo shot to control my period. I am not off it. She never told me that it would make me gain weight, so now here I am with a very low self-esteem. Every time I look in the mirror I feel horrible. I try to exercise, but I get out of breath very easily. Can you recommend any diet pills or any kind of medication that may help me lose weight. Also from gaining weight it formed stretch marks on my stomach which are very embarrassing. Do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of them or at least make them less noticeable. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Dear Katie, I am sorry to hear that your doctor made a mistake and put you on Depo injections. You say that you are still getting injections? These injections are made from progestin, a synthetic form of progesterone which is used mainly as a method of birth control for women who cannot use any other form of birth control. One of the drug's side effects is weight gain. A single injection lasts for three months. So if you are still getting these injections, please, please, tell your doctor that you don't want to receive them any longer. The effects of the drug will remain in your body for three months, so during these three months, it may be difficult to lose the added weight which you gained, no matter what you do. There are other more gentler ways to regulate your periods and menses, especially at your tender formative age. Here are some of the negative reasons for not using Depo-Provera: it can cause decreased bone density which can lead to osteoporosis, depression, increased blood clots, liver damage, headaches, hair loss, leg cramps, nervousness, dizziness, abdominal bloating, and weight gain. For your stretch marks on your stomach, you can rub some vitamin E on them. Just puncture a capsule of vitamin E and gently apply to your stomach area once or twice each day. The stretch marks will respond to the vitamin E if you use it regularly and use it as soon as they appear. The older the stretch marks, the longer and more difficult they are to rub away. It is best to use natural vitamin E, which can be distinguished from the synthetic form by the following small print and notations on the vitamin bottle: d- is the natural form, and dl- is the synthetic form. Use only the d- form which is the natural form. I think that synthetic substances have caused enough harm already, and should be laid to rest. Find a doctor who will listen to you, have patience until the Depo drug gets out of your system and body, and continue follow a healthy diet and exercise regimen to get back to your former weight. Please read the posts above to learn more about dieting. Good luck.

Thank you I meant to say, I am already off the shot and I now have a new doctor. I've been off the Depo shot for about 7 months, but the damage was already done when I got off the shot. Most of my stretch marks have faded to a silvery color, but I'll still try the Vitamin E. I'm trying to lose the weight but it is hard. I'll try to cut down on my calorie intake and exercise more. Hopefully that'll help. Thanks again

I have been slightly over weight most my life. Six years ago I was put on medication that caused me to gain 100lbs. in just six months. They finally got me off of it, and I have worked really hard to get myself down to a healthy 180, which is 20lbs more than before I started the medication. Six months ago I slowly started gaining weight. I am now 230lbs which is not as bad as before, but I am still gaining. I work 40 hours a week in a very fast paced kitchen and keep my caloric intake to 1900 or less. I also work out 3 times a week. Two weeks ago I found out that my thyroid is over active and the doctor said I should be dropping weight at an alarming rate, but the opposite is happening. Now he wants to slow it down, but I am afraid I will gain weight even faster. What can I do? I just want to be at a healthy weight.

Dear Cyndi, It is rare, but about 20% of patients who have hyperthyroidism, actually do gain weight. Since hyperthyroidism can develop slowly, in the beginning, it is possible to develop unhealthy eating habits, inadvertently taking nibbles and tastes of the food you work with, or eating at inappropriate times during the day, or making the wrong food choices, even though the calorie count is restricted. When the caloric intake is restricted for a long period of time, the body will try to conserve energy and make it extremely difficult to lose weight. In your case, the medication which started your weight gain may have changed your metabolism and may be responsible for altering your metabolism and metabolic rate. Also, your fast paced work schedule could also be responsible for adding to your metabolic dilemma. Please make sure that your doctor knows about the medication which originally caused your weight gain. It is important that you obtain a complete workup for your thyroid, including auto antibody testing, thyroid panel blood testing, and possibly an ultrasound to your thyroid. It is important to follow your doctor's orders. You should be under an Endocrinologist's care. This is a specialist who will know what further testing to perform. Good luck.

Ok first off a lot of you chicks are crazy. I am 5 feet 2 inches and 187 pounds. No one thinks I'm fat. I think I could stand to lose a few, but please 5 feet 5 inches and 150 pounds as a teenager is healthy. As you grow older that's when you need to worry about losing weight. Right now you are still potentially growing and shouldn't be freaking out. I used to be 4 feet 11 inches and 160 pounds, I had a growth spurt when I was 22 and grew a couple inches and looked great until I recently gained 27 pounds starting birth control. Please do not worry yourself when you are so young. If you are loosing weight because you think you will find a boyfriend you are doing it for the wrong reasons. I have a boyfriend and we love each other, he doesn't want me to lose weight. The only guys you are going to attract that way are men who just care about the physical. Please if you are going to loose weight do it for health. A guy isn't worth your time if he judges you for you size.

Hi Rebekah, I would follow Dr. Leia's advice and also try to tone my body instead of concentrating on how much the scale says I weigh. A toned body will always look better. Try lifting some light weights, and also work on the ab area.

Hello, I just turned 21 years old last week. Since January, I have gone on a pretty restricted low calorie diet. I have went down from 192lbs to about 159 as a result. But over the past few weeks, my weight has really plateaued. I exercise about four times a week and only eat about 1200 calories a day or vegetables, fruit, lean protein and whole grains. I don't understand why I am not loosing anymore weight. I would really like to get to about 140 or 145. I have tried the diet mentioned above and while it does work, an average American cannot stay on it long enough, and will gain it all back.

I'm almost 42 years old, 5'8", and stuck at 188 lbs. No matter what I do, I cannot lose the weight. I'm still on active duty in the Marine Corps, so I must keep my weight under 180 per USMC regulations. What is the best way to lose 10 lbs quickly and keep it off? Ideally, I'd like to get back to 168, but it is so hard to do now.

Have you seen a Dr. recently and let your problem be known. There are some viruses that can cause a person to be tired all the time. Also, if this is not the case once you begin to exercise you should begin to build your energy level up and reduce the flab. In addition, you should look very carefully at what you are eating and see if it is of a high quality. Chips and soda etc. are empty calories and they do not help build the body up. Choose foods that offer your body something to work with. I wish you luck in your quest to find the solution to your problem.

I'm Ashley. I am 17 years old. I have a problem keeping my weight off. I can do the work but it slowly goes away. I am also an athlete. So this means, I can't cut sugar out completely. I would really like to lose this weight to feel better about myself.

Hi Ashley, you will need a bit of carbohydrate before you ask your body to do an athletic event. Just stay clear of the wrong kinds, such as pop, chips etc. eat instead things like whole fruit. Plums, apricots, etc. It doesn't have to be a large amount. If you eat crackers let it be whole grain etc.

Hi Maia, you don't need to have an expensive diet plan or a gym membership to be successful. You do need to keep with it and read labels. Serving size is so important. Most of us eat two to three times an actual serving size. Also, it is important to try and eat fresh vegetables whenever possible. Meat should be cut back to the size of your palm and be lower in fat content. Look at the labels they will tell you what you are getting. Empty calories are often found in prepackaged foods. Please stay away from fruit juices and things containing high fructose corn syrup. Eat fruit if you want something sweet. You will get some fiber along with the sweetness. Two servings of one half cup is a good amount of fruit in a day. Watch your sugar intake. Drink things like ice tea with a sweetener like Stevia. Avoid pop, chips etc. And exercise is mandatory every day even if you just walk. I don't mean a short walk. I am talking about working your way up to a mile or two over time. Later on you should and most likely will want to do much more..

Hi Sheryl, Wow way to go girl. You can and will do it. We all need some of that kind of self affirmation. If you find that you have failed pick yourself up and dust off and try again tomorrow. Your life as a healthy person without high blood pressure is at stake.

Stuti, it may be that you are snacking when you are studying or trying to relax in between school and work? If you are, please change to snacks that you control. Set up the snacks in small baggies. Make them ahead of time. Then you will not eat out of vending machines or be as tempted by junk foods. Put veggies like snow peas, carrots, dried cranberries that are not sweetened with loads of sugar etc. Look around and start to read labels to find foods that will work better for you. Try to work in exercise where you can. Park further out in the parking lot at school, work, or when you go shopping.

Hello, I'm 15 years old with a strong desire to get in shape. At 5' 1", I weigh 123 lbs with pretty much most of it flab. With an active job involving 10 hours of running dogs back and forth and extensive cleaning throughout the premises, I figure that it is good exercise. But I just can't seem to get in shape. You can pretty much grab a free hold of my upper arms, stomach, and thighs. All junk foods have been eliminated from my diet, but I still drink sports drinks. But one thing I am curious about; when I was 12-13 years old I suffered from anorexia severe enough that I lost both 35 pounds and my period for 7 months. Now I've gained the weight back and am curious if this is a long-term effect from three years ago. I have learned to accept my image but my dwindling self-esteem is starting to return again. Thoughts about resorting to anorexia are resurfacing again, even though its definitely not a great option. Some help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm 19 and have always had trouble with my weight, at the moment I stand at 5'3" and 190lbs and haven't gained a pound in over a year. Since I've hit my mark on how much I weigh and can't gain anymore for some reason, I decided to lose some weight maybe get down to a healthy 125/130lbs just a normal weight. But that was over a year ago that I decided this, I exercise everyday, swimming at the gym, riding my bike every where I go, and walk my dogs every morning and night. I eat healthy foods for breakfast, lunch and dinner; I don't drink soda, and I don't eat fast food. But no matter how active I am and how healthy I eat, I can't lose any weight. I've been to the doctors and had tests done, but there are no problems with me. So I am curious if there is a diet out there that would work for someone like me.

Dear Taylor G, Sports drinks are made for athletes or active people. They are not made for dieters because they contain lots of calories, and may even be harmful to your teeth because of their high acid content which may dissolve your teeth's enamel. Mostly, these drinks contain sugar and caffeine, and amino acids which can cause adverse side effects in some people. The high sugar content can disrupt your blood sugar levels and contribute to emotional mood swings which, in turn can contribute to your decreased feelings of low self esteem. I highly recommend that you discontinue these sports drinks as soon as possible. Once you get on a healthy diet and exercise program, you will feel much better about yourself and your body. Just know that you beat anorexia once, so you can beat it again. Please enlist the aid of a professional to help you with your emotions. Here is a good website which discusses sport drinks > Sports drinks can be unhealthy. Good luck to you.

Hi, I am 11 years old and people always tell I'm to young to worry about my weight, but I do anyway. I am way over weight for my age. I weigh 120-130lbs. I want to lose weight and keep it off. How do I do it?

I'm going to be 17 on August 3rd, and I have to say one thing. I have turned my life around completely. Although I am still a size 7 - 9 in juniors, I love my legs. Ever since I realized that I do have control over my life, I've started running, even did track for my school. Running helped me lower my weight and transform all the fat to muscle. However, I seriously ruined my knee from running so much and I don't have any other way to get cardiovascular exercise in. I want to loose this last 8 pounds. I have the ways to train, but I'm disabled from my knee condition. I also hate dieting with a passion. How can I just get these last few pounds off with my injured knee?

Hi Megyn, I think swimming would be a wonderful new sport for you to try as it is low impact. I would contact my nearest gym or YMCA and check out what they have to offer that would allow you to get the type of workout you need even with knee problems.

I'm 13 and 126 pounds. I want to lose 10 pounds before school starts back up. I also work out at my aunts horse barn. We get McDonald's for breakfast everyday. If I cut back to only McDonald's for breakfast will that be enough? My aunt would look at me like I'm crazy if I told her I was on a diet, and my whole family would know in just one week. What exercises do you recommend? Also, as long as I get all the oz. of water, is it OK if I drink V8 V-Fusion as my fruits and veggies? I don't like veggies.

Hi, I'm 16 years old and about to enter my junior year of high school. The last time I weighed myself, I was 141. Not bad, I realize, but it doesn't really look great on my 5'2'' frame. I would like to have more self confidence and be able to shop with my best friend. I exercise at least once a week for an hour doing baton twirling, but sometimes I will practice 3 times for an hour depending on the practice schedule. I only drink 1 soda a day and eat fairly healthy, but I can't seem to lose any weight. I'd only like to lose 10-15 pounds. I will definitely try the diet above, but does anyone have any other tips? Thanks :)

My name is Eli. I'm a guy who's 14 years old and weighs 129 pounds. I am 5 feet 5 inches tall, and my weight sometimes makes me feel uncomfortable. Everyone is always saying I look fine how I am, but I don't feel like I look fine. I usually drink water and not sweet tea and bad drinks like that. I never drink soda, and if I do, I make sure it is diet. I eat out once to twice a month, and get exercise occasionally. Would more frequent exercise help? Also, does anyone have any suggestions to lose 10 pounds that aren't listed in the article above? I just want to be a normal teen and have good self-esteem.

This is to everyone who needs help losing weight. I'm 17 years old, 125 lbs, 5'2". This past summer I weighed 135, and although that isn't terrible, I wanted to lose weight. And I did, and still am. I have some suggestions, if anyone wants to know what helped me shed the pounds. Water drink a lot of water, and when you do, make sure it's ice cold. Your body will have to work harder to get your body heat up. Eat, when you don't eat, your metabolism doesn't have to work to burn calories which in the end slows your metabolism. Then when you do eat, your metabolism won't burn calories for you. Eat 5 to 6 small meals rather than 3 big meals. If you're the family that makes all 3 meals and eats them on schedule, then portion control your meals and eat healthy snacks throughout the day. Good snacks like, cucumbers, apples with peanut butter, unsalted nuts, etc. Also grapefruit is amazing. Try to eat it for snacks, or with any of your meals. Fiber filled foods like, strawberries, apples, broccoli, brown rice, bran, nuts, green veggies, etc. make you fuller, but don't have a lot of calories. Before you eat a meal, try and drink a big glass of water 5 to 10 minutes before hand, you'll eat less. Drink skim milk, water or unsweetened grapefruit juice instead of soda. Any unsweetened juices are good, too. Also try to drink green tea everyday. No, not Lipton or Brisk, boil water and add the packet. It increases your metabolism. Eat good fat. Like fish. I hated fish, but look around for stuffed fish, etc. You'd be surprised what you like. Just because a label says fat free doesn't mean it is calorie free. It will have a lot of sugar. The nutrition label is now your new best friend. Look for foods high in fiber and protein and low in sugar and sodium. Switch pasta, breads, etc. to whole grain. Go to bed early. You lose the most calories when you sleep. This may sound weird, but when you're in the shower, do squats. It sounded weird to me to, when a friend told me about it, but I do it and it works. When you get bored, don't watch t.v. or a movie, go for a walk or call up some friends. When you go out with friends, avoid going to eat, or seeing movies. Go bowling, laser tagging, etc. Work out. You have time to, so don't tell yourself or others that you don't. Go to fitness magazine, they have a lot of helpful workout plans. Chew sugar free gum during the day. It helped keep me from being hungry between meals. During meals use smaller plates to make it look like there's more food, and try not to eat all the food on your plate. That's what helped me, if I hear of any other ways I will definitely post them up on here. Hope this helps.

This diet sounds wonderful, and I drink grapefruit juice all the time. So, I guess it's a good start. I'm 205 pounds. I weigh more now than I did the day before I gave birth to my son, who is almost three. I didn't work for a few months and the job I had required me to sit all day. I've gained so much weight it's getting in the way of my relationship with my son and with my friends. I just want to feel better. My thing is sticking to it is so hard. My mother and siblings are also a little overweight, and I would love for them to do it with me. What's a way to convince them that this is going to be good and work, and make all of us a happier family? We all need your help.

Miranda you have a great deal of growing to do. Please try to take a look at your feelings and see if they are not just because of other people's unfortunate comments or from looking at magazines of skinny tall girls. We are all different and this is a good thing. Relax a bit, as you will be going through some very big changes over the next two years or so. It would be wonderful if you could talk to your Mom or a close trusted adult about how much growth and how many changes you will be likely to experience soon. This would help you see that you have nothing to worry about.

I'm 19 years old, I'm 5'7'' and 138 lbs. I lost about 20 lbs in the last month and a half by keeping my calorie count between 700 and 1000 daily. I've been moderately active, on the elliptical or stationary bike at the gym. I've always been an active person. I practice mixed martial arts, and I used to play basketball with my mom daily. Anyway, I've maintained this weight for the past two weeks. The thing is, I would like to lose another 8 lbs in the next two weeks or so, and I will have reached my goal. However, my dieting methods seem to have caused my metabolism to freeze up or something. I don't eat bacon and I don't like grapefruit. Do you have any suggestions on how I can drop the eight lbs soon?

By Dee
2008-10-26 19:06:34

Girl, you have indeed slowed your metabolism down. Start to eat more. At least 1200 calories a day. I doubt you will lose eight more pounds in the next two weeks. It is more likely that you will plateau and remain the same. You will need to reset your metabolic rate by eating more and continue to work out in order to reset it. I would probably try lowering the carbohydrates to a minimum and eating lean meats along with plums or other lower carbohydrate fruits and salads.

Last summer, I went on a huge course to change my lifestyle. I ended up losing about 30 pounds, a huge change from what I was before. However, not many people are noticing, and I am still categorized as fat. I have Kiphosis which makes me hunch over and makes me seem bigger than I actually am, as I have fat in the pectoral area and I need to lose that and lose my stomach, and I want to look skinny and not be categorized as fat. I have gained back 10 pounds from summer as I haven't been working out whatsoever, and I want to lose all of them. Should I start running? Also, what can I do about my Kiphosis? Will I never look skinny because of it? I have huge broad shoulders, but that just adds to me looking fat because I slouch. What can I do to look skinny and make people notice?

Hi Dee, I would suggest working out your abdominal muscles. Drinking puts weight on very quickly. Smoking does cause weight loss but is very unhealthy and can in the end cause your health to degrade to a point where you will gain weight because you are no longer able to exercise effectively.

Hi I'm 22 years old and I have always been a size 7 or 9, that is until I got married and had 2 beautiful babies now I am weighing in at 230 and wear a size 20. I'm so depressed because of all the weight i gained with my pregnancies. My daughter is 3 and my son is 1. So, really there is no more excuses. My problem is I don't eat enough. I really could live off of a bowl of cereal and that's fine with me. But I know that's not healthy. I want to try to eat more meals a day but good choices. I'm afraid my metabolism went way down and exercise, well I need to fit that into my daily routine. But, I just don't know where to start. What's a good way to lose my weight? I heard that if you work out after the workout you need some type of protein, is this true? what's a good exercise to start off with? I have very large breasts that make it so hard for me to do anything but walk, but I get so bored of walking. I want to run or do something more. I use to love to run but its so hard to with 40 extra pounds. Please any advice will help me.

I'm currently 16 years old and in grade 11. I have tried to diet so many times and with the amount of activity I do with sports I am pretty healthy, but about two years ago I was very unhappy with myself and the weight I was at. I was about 160 pounds, and about 5'2". Of course to some of you, you'd think is she serious? But I can't help it if I'm unhappy with myself. After all I am a girl, and a teenager so its stressful to try and look perfect. Anyways getting to my point, I tried so hard to lose weight all the time and then a family friend told me about something called a naturopath which is a doctor who gives out natural medicines as well as an eating plan which not only suits you and is fitted to your blood type as well. You'll be amazed at all the things they will have to say. If you have the money, it can be a bit pricey but in the end its worth it and if you ever gain it back, you'll know exactly what to do. To me, I found out I was lactose intolerant, but I was drinking about 3 glasses of milk a day, so I switched to almond milk and soy milk. I am now also drinking lactose free milk. I am not a big meat eater and usually only eat chicken, but she said that was good and as well as eating fish. Another thing she told me was every morning, cut half a lemon and squeeze it into a glass of water and that will flush out your system. Talking vitamin B6 and B12 will help your metabolism and increase your chances of losing weight. I also switched from any white bread to whole grain not whole wheat as well as rye bread, and I went from peanut butter to almond which has less acid as well as less fat by far. The thing that was a big thing was not to eat after 8 at night. After eating dinner you have enough time before you go to bed to digest, and by eating before bed the food and sugars stay in your system and do not digest which is not healthy. All in all, after a two month period, I quickly lost 15 pounds and when my body got used to eating all these foods, I was losing little amounts of weight here and there, not as quickly as before but it was just what I wanted, and I was a lot more confident.

I'm 16 years old and 5 ft. 3 and 196 pounds. I have tried all sorts of diets and none of them worked. I did try the Atkins diet and that worked fine by dropping pounds, but I must of lost about 2 stone within 2 weeks which was great but you could also start seeing my ribs and every morning I would wake up feeling sick, and I pretty much stopped eating altogether because of how ill I felt. So I had to try and start eating normally and it took me a while to get back to normal. That's one diet I wouldn't want to try again. That was about two years ago but in the last five to six months I have put on loads. I would prefer to try all the healthier diets, but I never find they work on me. I end up putting more on then losing it.

This is just the grapefruit diet that's been around since the 1930's. You will lose the weight, but as soon as you are off the diet you will gain it all back. It's just fluid that you are losing not fat. This isn't something "new" and a "secret." If you want to lose weight, eat healthy in normal portions, exercise, and stop drinking soda pop. There is no "secret" diet or pill that will make you have a dramatic weight loss unless you want surgery or an eating disorder. Put the fork down and exercise. Also, stop eating fast food. Just look up their menus and see how many calories you consume by just eating small fries. That is enough motivation for anyone.

Hi Jamie, many people will often drink more than the serving size on the bottle. If a juice has a high level of sugar, above 18, I would leave it off my list entirely. Go for the juice that has no added corn syrup etc. Juice can pack on the weight. A small amount is OK. It is best to eat the fruit as you get some fiber as well. As far as your question on how much exercise is needed, that will vary greatly between each individual person and even changes as a person becomes more physically fit.

I am trying to drop weight and I have done pretty good so far. I wanted to share my advice with you. Monitor your calories, it will make you more aware. I like the site at fitday.com because you can make a free profile for free. Exercise has to be a component if you want to drop the weight. Sometimes, I have to force myself to exercise but once I start I get a surge of energy. Just do it, even 15 minutes per day helps. Also their is a diet pill I like called Leptopril. Also find healthy alternatives to your usual foods like salads with fat free dressing or canned soup with less salt, and eat veggies, so you have no excuse for because you don't feel like cooking. And use spices to help you stick to your diet. In addition find treats that are better for you. When you are thinking of breaking your diet think about what you are doing. For example you have to roller blade for 30 minutes to use up the calories you would get from one tablespoon of frosting. It's not worth it. This helps me a lot. And remember once you reach your goal weight you will be able to have more sweets in moderation if you continue to exercise. I hope this helps you as it has helped me. Since the 29th I have lost around 10 pounds. But I have gained muscle too. Muscle weights more than fat. I like to do videos and dancing and rollerblading. These all are fun. I don't do anything I don't enjoy. I only associate happiness with healthy choices, so pick exercises that are fun for you.

I just started these Acai Berry capsules to try and regulate my metabolism. I do not eat meat and don't like many vegetables. Any suggestions on how I can loose around 20 lbs? I like to exercise I just don't have the money to join a gym, so I usually only do simple workouts at home. It just doesn't seem to do anything. Any suggestions?

Hi Frey, it is not a good idea to eat once a day as it actually will back fire and cause your metabolism to slow and will cause weight gain as your body adjusts to this, because it registers the change as a period of starvation.

A month ago, I went traveling around Egypt, being on the go, we ate a lot of unhealthy oily food. Then I started having bowel problems, and I instantly gain 3kg, thus I went on a detox, for a week or less, and it helped with my constipation, but not my weight. Now, I watch what I eat but, I substitute my chocolate for snacks with oranges. Yet, a few days ago, I had water retention. So I limit one small orange per day, for breakfast, and kept others the same. With this, I do yoga and Pilates everyday, alternating them with Cardio. But, from day to day, when I look in the mirror, my face is getting chubbier, and the jeans tighter, not muscles, I'm getting a tummy and love handles. What have I done wrong?

Two years ago I was 120. I pigged out I would starve myself for a day and lose the weight so easily. I also used to run for an hour twice or 3 times a week. Now I just feel like I have no time at all for anything. I don't run anymore, and when I try its so difficult to stay on my tread mill for 20 minutes. I eat anything and I'm always eating something. Now I weight 155, two years later, and I starve but I gain the weight right back twice over. I've tried exercising but I can't commit. I don't know what I should eat, and tried every pill from Acai burn to green tea. I really want to do this, its my aunt's wedding this summer and I want to fit nicely in my dress what should I do?

The girl, it is hard to lose weight if you do not exercise consistently and also the intensity matters. Consider getting a heart rate monitor so you know that you are getting the most out of your workout. Also read those labels and look for food value in your food. Cut back on empty calories and limit your serving sizes. You need to see what a serving size really is by reading the labels carefully.

Hi BETTY, I think every girl or woman needs to know that the the weight required for modeling can be dangerous and is not appropriate for every woman. It depends on body structure, frame size, and genetics. Go here to check your > Appropriate Weight Charts.

I am 21 and was just diagnosed with GERD, it's taken over my life in many ways. I can't eat anything I use to eat because it hurts when I have acid reflux. They gave me a booklet to show me which foods will trigger acid reflux and which food to start making a priority in my life. I am in the process of trying to lose a few necessary pounds and trying to fit in the GERD diet in the process, but I am having trouble with the will power part of the process. I would love to hear of any suggestions you have as to how I can ease into the process and shed a few pounds at the same time.

Megan, you should check out a book called, "Healing Digestive Disorders." It was written by Andrew Gaeddert. It gives lots of information on this problem.

Hey well, I'm 14 years old and I'm like 5'0, and I want to loose 10 pounds. I really want to weigh from 90-95 pounds, and I'm like 108 right now and want to loose real fast. I've been exercising more, and well, I'm just asking if it is safe to loose 10 pounds in a week. And if I did how do I keep it off?

I am 13 years old and I am 5' 5", and I weigh 140 pounds or 10 stone. My Body Mass Index is 23.3 which is healthy but I am fat. I have a flabby belly, a big bum and horrible thighs. I hate the way I look, and I am under constant peer pressure from my mum about how fat I am. I would like to lose weight in a couple of months. Please recommend an exercise plan where I can lose around four pounds a week.

Hello, alright so I used to be so confident with my body. I was the perfect weight everything but then my family went through a lot of hardship, and I gained like 10-15 pounds. I'm 15 and want to go back and lose about 10 pounds. I want it to stay off for good though, none of this temporary stuff. I really want to see results fast.

Hi. I'm Sophie, I'm 29 years old. I have hypothyroidism which made me gain weight. I've been on thyroid hormone therapy for 4 years. I have been trying to find a way lose a few more pounds for my wedding, but it's really hard if your metabolism is impaired. I found out that I cannot just follow those diet plans online because there are foods that I should avoid even some of the healthy stuff. If you have the same condition, and have lost weight, can you suggest something for me? I don't really want to be thin. I just don't want to keep on gaining weight and if I could lose 10 lbs for my wedding, that would be wonderful.

I come from a athletic family. My mom and dad are both body builders. My little brother is a national undefeated wrestler, I used to be super skinny and all muscle, like a legit 8 pack, however after I went through puberty I rapidly started gaining weight. Now I am a freshman in high school, and I weigh 155 pounds, and I'm 5 feet 5 inches tall. I dreamed of going to the Olympics as a gymnast. I was a gymnast for 8 years, and worked out like 25 hours a week. I recently quit because, I couldn't do the tricks I used to due to all the weight, and I was embarrassed to be in my leotard next to all the other girls. The coaches from the other teams would make fun of my weight, and I just felt horrible. I really need to loose weight, I want to be my old self. I can't enjoy anything anymore, I feel as if I'm addicted to food. I need help.

I am 16 years old soon to be 17. Over the last year or so I have lost around 100 pounds and was very happy with the way I looked and felt. I have now started to hit a large bump in the road and am now always wanting to eat sweets. I don't mind eating the sweets it's just that after I eat them I feel really bad because my stomach is so much larger then I would like it to be. I exercise daily, all together throughout the day probably around 2 and a half or 3 hours, because I am scared about putting the weight back on. I would like to find a way to reduce the sweet craving that I have and a good quick way to loose about 15 pounds. Thanks for any help you can provide

Hi, I'm 17 years old and I am 5'5'' and 255pounds. I am going on a trip in about 6 months, and I have to look amazing. It's for a family reunion and my grandparents spent 30 grand for me to go to this camp and lose all this weight, and I was down to 155lbs in the last 2 years. I gained 100 big ones, and I need help getting this weight back off. I know it will take time, but right now I just need to know some basics please.

Hi, I am 19 years old and I am 5'5 and weigh 150 pounds. I am very disappointed by the way I look my thighs and stomach look awful. I would never be caught in public wearing a bathing suit. I wanna loose about 30 pounds and look good. My self esteem is so low because of the way my body looks. I try to loose weight by drinking lots of water and watching what I eat, but it never seems to work. I know I am not over weight, but I look awful. I always worry that my fat is showing and that it sticks out with everything I wear. I just wanna loose weight and finally be proud of what I look like.

I am fourteen years old, and I weight almost 11 stone. I don't look that big and I have a large bust for my age which is probably quite heavy. My size is a 12 on the bottoms, and I really want to loose weight. I'm constantly surrounded by super skinny girls, and I feel disgusting when I stand by them. I also get terrorized about my dimples which I want to get rid of even though people only mess around, my cheeks are chubby. Every time I try to follow a diet, it never ever seems to work. A few of the reasons are probably that I have five brothers and sisters therefore my mom must buy nice food and snacks for them to eat. Also, I go to school therefore I cannot follow a diet plan as I can't take a burger to school and that? I went on a diet not long ago but I felt dizzy, tired, and cold all the time as I was barley eating, yet when I dropped to a size 10 I felt a great sense of achievement. But recently I had another school holiday and I've piled all the weight back on and I have a gut. Does anybody have any advice?

I'm 16 and I want to lose 10-15 pounds. I'm 6 foot tall and I weigh about 165. I hope the diet thing I'm on will work so far I'm not sure. I'm in sports but after track practice I just eat and eat, and I gain it back. I don't get much sleep, because after I eat I have to do homework then I don't go to bed till 12 or 1:00 am.

Hi, my name is Meme and I'm 245 and 5'9 and 16. I've been struggling with my weight since I was 13. When I was in school I had a behavior problem, so I started to take medicine and all I had a taste for was sweets. But then I asked my mom if I could get off this medicine, because I really want to enjoy some food. so when I was 12 I was 5'6 weight 125 pounds, and when I was 13 I went to 163, and when I was 14 I was 209, and when I was 15 I weighed 220, and know I'm 16 and now weight 245 pounds. The moment I started gaining weight I started not to have any boys interested in me and I started to have low self esteem but know I'm ready to do something about this. I haven't had a boy friend in 4 years and I'm only 16. I hope this works.

There's something that everyone needs to know: Loosing weight does not happen fast. The pills and diets are effective for a limited time only and it's because the companies that make them want you to keep coming back and using their product. Also, loosing weight so you can fit into a bridesmaid dress, prom dress or whatever is a lame reason to loose weight. It's a decision made for a temporary event, so that's how long you'll keep the pounds off. Then you gain the weight right back plus more. It's called weight cycling, and it makes it harder to loose weight every time you do it. And when you grow older your metabolism starts to go downhill, so you need to make better choices now so you won't have to pay for it later. If you're lazy that's all the more reason for you to learn how to commit to a plan. I tried the products and diets and honestly, they just don't work. I only started to loose weight when I began to make healthier choices and made some lifestyle changes. I reduced the amount of sugars and fats I was taking in, and started eating more vegetables, fruits, grains with complex carbohydrates, and healthier meats like chicken, fish, very lean beef, etc. Anyone who wants to loose weight and keep it off is going to have to learn to commit to it. When I started eating better and exercising regularly I gradually lost 20 lbs over 2-3 months. Yes, it takes time depending on your metabolism. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, that's fine. They're definitely healthier lifestyles than some, but there are essential proteins in meat that your body needs. And no, meats aren't pollutants. There's no proof. Our ancestors have been eating meat for thousands of years, and so far it hasn't done any damage to us. In fact, we've evolved to become the dominant species on the planet, so I think you're OK if you eat meat. But it's a personal choice. Anyway now, there are a lot of different reasons why people tend to keep the weight they gain even though they eat healthy and exercise regularly. Sometimes it can be genetic, and that's where you need to talk to a doctor about it. Anyway, my main point is, give up on trying to find a quick fix, and start making permanent changes. Learn to have patience because it will take a while for you to get in shape.

Just for motivation I know for a fact this diet works. I'm 5'10 and was at about 170 when I started. I did the diet for 12 days, stopped for 2 and did another 12. I got down to about 142. I literally lost a lb everyday or more if I worked out hard. You have to be determined and really want to lose the weight and think of the food your craving as only being satisfying for about 10 seconds. The sweets and snack just really aren't worth it! Do it for your health and happiness. It's well worth it! Deja

I really want to loose ten to fifteen pounds. I am about 5, 6 and i weigh 144 pounds. Even though I am a size four in pants I feel like all the fat is going to my stomach area. I play tennis twice a week and I normally do 100 sit ups every day. even with all of this I am not loosing any weight. I do not over eat and eat mostly healthy foods. A few months ago I got sick and I lost 6 pounds, but after about a month I started eating normally again and it has slowly come back. I really need to loose this weight for tennis season and no matter what I do it never seems to come off.

I'm 5'4 and i weigh 170 pounds. I don't think I look it, but I think that my weight gain is in my stomach area and love handles. How do I lose the fat in this area? I had gotten really sick this last year and had not really eaten anything for three months, and I went from 175 down to 130 and everyone had said how good I looked. Now everyone has noticed I've gained the weight back. I'm not a big fan of grapefruit, but I can give this a shot.

Hi I am the mother of 12 children. Before having my first at age 16 I weighed 140lbs. Now at age 34 I weigh 260lbs and have a size 24 waist. I am a home body so I don't go out often enough to even walk around. I'm 5'5 and I would love to be down to a size 12 by Christmas of 09. I'm willing to do what it takes but with a family of 12 kids and me I'm very limited on budget so no gyms and no expensive diets and foods. I don't know what to do, I do know this much, I'd love to climb the stairs without hearing my knees make shredded paper noises, and I'd love to chase my 3 year old without tripping. Any suggestions would be appreciated and any advice on trimming up the big belly hanging from 12 kids would be great too.

Hello, I'm 19 years old, 5 ft, 9 in, 150 lbs. In January, I weighed 118 lbs. I broke up with my ex-boyfriend after being in an abusive relationship, physically and emotionally, for more than two years. I have finally began to deal with the depression and anxiety from being with him. But I have a binging type of eating disorder that still creeps in on me. I always eat when I'm not hungry, and I eat just the food I can find, which is usually not healthy. My whole life I've been on the skinny side, extremely healthy and athletic, but being in college now has created difficulties. Any advice to overcome and find my way back to how I was before?

Don't be in such a rush to lose weight. Being in athletics and having a lot of pressure to stay in shape and be skinny was difficult in high school and I was on a different diet almost every week. I ended up getting very sick and still today have a hard time eating a whole meal at the age of 19. Be careful when your dieting, there's a difference between healthy and unhealthy. And your mind has a hard time telling the difference when your set on "looking good". Please stay healthy while dieting. Also, nutritionists give great advice. My friend is going to school to be one and she is always nagging me about the way I eat, but it truly helps.

Okay, I'm sixteen and quite obese. I am 5'4 and 201 pounds, and I need help. The biggest problem I'm having is that I can't stay on track and I have no one to help me plan things. My parents refuse to get me help. No matter what, so I come to you looking for effective and not fast but steady weight loss. I don't want to be fat for the rest of my life. But I would like to lose the ten pounds fast in order for me to actually see that well I can lose weight. I have been trying since I was nine, and it's really starting to get to me, that I haven't lost a single pound. I know this has nothing to do with any health problems but my own laziness and sweet tooth which is the reason I am obese. So, I'm looking for some fast and effective ways to keep it off, and shed it steadily so I always see myself going down instead of up.

Hi Marie, your inability to lose weight can be due to many different factors. And yes your age can be a factor as well as your eating patterns and your patterns for exercise.

Hi have followed the diet for 10 days now to the letter, and I am in full ketosis, but I dropped only 2 lbs. I was seriously ill and underwent proctocolectomy last year, could not eat for a year and a half prior to that living on lucozade and water, dropped 6 stone steroids had blown me up to a size 22 almost 14 stone, then dropped to a 12 and 9 stone. Despite eating very little, but being inactive with an open wound for 11 months, I rapidly gained 3 stone and am stuck at 12 stone, nurse said after chemo etc. that my body is stuck in starvation mode. What can I do to make this weight drop? I am 54 yrs old female and 5ft 1inch tall, and I am no longer on steroids. Please how do I make the weight come off? I don't want to be heavy. Also some days I would like bacon and eggs for lunch as well, and must you stick exactly to one glass of grapefruit juice only with each meal? I am having unsweetened Ruby grapefruit juice. I have put others on the diet. They are losing weight, but I'm not.

Hi Vicki, the above diet is meant for people without health problems that just want to lose ten pounds or so and it is not meant to be a long term diet plan. I think you should see a nutritionist and work out what would be the best plan of action for your personally. We are not all the same. I am concerned that you will make yourself even sicker than you have been by following a diet that is not for someone with health issues.

I fell on the website while looking for a similar idea, and was just so moved by all the stories and comments I've just read from all you girls between 14-22. I just wanted to share my story with you, because I want you all to know that with the proper motivation and diet, you guys are on the right track by realizing that you want to get healthy both in body and mind. At 14, I was about 5'5/5'6 and weighed 155 lbs. at my worst. I don't think I've ever admitted that out loud ever. Now at 22, I'm 5'6 and weight between 115-120 lbs, and I've never felt more awesome. The things that worked for me: I never drink soda (coke, etc.), I drink plenty of water, I've gone vegan, and I exercise for a minimum of 20 minutes at least 5 days a week (think about it, 20 minutes is no time at all). So keep at it, and good luck.

Hi, I'm Megan and I'm 15 years old. I know you might not believe this, but I am training to be a model. I'm going to be signed at the end of this year, and I'm still loosing weight. As of right now I am 5'9.5 and I weigh 126 pounds. I used to weigh about 145 then after a while I dropped to about 135. Then I started to loose more and more, but I would bounce back, and I usually range from 126 to 134. Now you might dislike me and think "oh its just another skinny girl" but as of right now my modeling agencies are continuing to tell me to loose weight. Apparently I should be, you know the perfect size, 24 waist and a 34 hip. But right now my body seems to be staying at a 25 waist and a 36 hip. Its very odd to be working out three times a day all week and not loose the weight. Trust me its frustrating. But listen, for all you girls from 13 to 18 this is what you have to do. You really need to work out everyday. I'm not saying to do intense workouts for up to a couple hours, I'm talking about walking around the block. Instead of watching TV go to the Mall. I have no money, but I go window shopping. I'm serious, it burns calories and you need to be drinking tons of water. I mean tons of water like so much that when you go to the bathroom and leave to go into another room you have to turn around and go back to the bathroom. You need to be eating five to six little meals like you can have food but make sure its low sodium low carbohydrate, low sugar. This is what I eat for breakfast, maple and brown sugar oatmeal for weight control as it holds me for like three to four hours. I usually don't have a small meal but if I do it's fruit, yogurt, or veggies. For lunch oatmeal again, or a salad. But it's a big salad with good stuff in it. Then I have a small meal like chips or more fruit and yogurt. For dinner you can eat whatever you want. Then for my last tiny meal I have frozen mangoes. It's like ice cream. You just suck on them and bite. I also eat tons of sugar free desserts. But listen say you start this diet on Monday, by Sunday you can have a free day. When I say free day, I mean like anything you want. So instead of dreading being on this diet forever, you can just look forward to Sunday. But the funny thing is, by Sunday your stomach has shrunk because your eating less then what you think you are. All the fat foods your going to eat your body isn't used to, so when your done with your Sunday you feel sick. I mean ill. So for Sundays to come you don't really want them to come. Trust me girls I'm in love with food. I'm dead serious. You hit me up and I'll tell you were to go to get some amazing food. But you just need to take things slow and knowing all of you and what you've told me, you will loose a lot of weight. Maybe not 10 pounds a week because that's almost impossible and its physically unhealthy for you to be loosing that much. Just believe you can do it. I hate working out but you really have to. Just go walk, that's it. I'm not asking you to do anything but just walk at least two miles a day. Thanks for reading as I know its long. Best of luck.

Hi my name is Rene. I am 22 years old, and I weigh 190 lbs. I don't feel like I weigh that much, but my scale says I do. I am a size 14-16 and I am so sick of it. I will be happy as a 9 or 11. I have no self control. I am addicted to ice cream. I eat the slow churned which doesn't fill me with too much guilt. I had a son 3 years ago and the fact that I am using my "I just had a baby" is getting pathetic since he is already 3. I am not afraid of fruits, veggies or water. I just have trouble fitting them into my everyday every meal routine. I really want to work out but I just never do it. I need some motivation or someone to keep me in check.

Alright, so I don't eat a whole lot of food, but I do eat. And I eat healthy. I never ever skip meals. I drink water, only water. I honestly hate soda. And I exercise. I don't know why I weigh as much as I do. I'm not fat, but I am overweight. I just carry it well. But I wish I wasn't overweight. What else do I need to do in order to get what I want?

Okay I've always been kinda big, but when I hit 5th grade I really starting noticing it as I was 125 lbs and maybe 5'0" but it wasn't too bad until I hit 190 lbs, 5'4" at 14 yrs. old. Now I'm 19 almost 20 and am 255 lbs., 5'6". I have tried many different kinds of diet pills and other stuff since I was 13. When I was 18 at 267 lbs, I found out I had gallbladder problems. Well, it made me throw up a lot and I lost 37 lbs. Because of this sorry to say I refused to have my gallbladder removed thinking it would force me to lose weight. Well apparently I'm a living miracle cause now there's nothing wrong with my gallbladder and of course I gained almost all the weight back. I'm so scared to hit over that mark of 267 lbs because it was my biggest ever. A lot of my family members are big, and my parents always say "oh, you're skinny compared to your great aunt so-and-so," but I hate it. I'm getting married next year to my 6 ft, 165 lb. fiance who thinks my weight "doesn't matter." But he has lost a lot of friends because they think he's too good for me. It makes me feel horrible, like I'm ruining his life. I don't get out much because I don't feel comfortable in public especially by myself. Sorry this is so long, sometimes I feel like screaming til I die. I try to watch what I eat, but we don't have a lot of money, so I buy things my fiance likes first. I stay hungry even after I eat way too much, I even get stomach pains and dizzy when I diet. I've even tried drinking a lot of water to make up for the hunger, but then I just turn around and eat anyways. My fiance hates the fact I want to diet. He eats constantly and never gains anything. I only want to get to 160 lbs. Which I didn't think was a lot, but that's 95 lbs. I get married in April. Ninety-five lbs in 6 months, is this possible and how?

Hi, my name is Julia, and I am 39 years old. I have been through a lot in the past 3.5 years. I was diagnosed with a rare form of MS that effects my ability to feel my extremities. I had a baby and she is a wonderful addition to my four stepchildren, one of which was diagnosed with autism. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had my thyroid removed, and radiation therapy, and married my boyfriend of five years. That being said, I now weigh 325 pounds. I have tried losing weight the entire time. I was able to lose weight while I was pregnant and nursing, but since my radiation therapy I can't seem to lose at all. I understand the importance of eating well, and we eat organic, gluten free, and dairy free. Exercising is hard for me because I can't feel my feet, so walking can be scary. I don't over eat or have large portions often, maybe monthly. I am not a snacker by nature, and I only drink water, no caffeine and no sugar. Saying I am feeling frustrated is an understatement, overwhelmed would be better. I am looking for any suggestions or ideas on what I can do. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi my name is Michelle. I am 19 years old, I'm 5'6, and weigh at 180lbs. I know for a fact that I'm not suppose to weigh this much at this age. I've never weighed this much in my life. I have always been below 150. Then all of a sudden, as soon as I graduated, I started gaining weight. Even the people that I work with have noticed that I gained a few pounds. My friends that I've known since we were in diapers have even noticed and told me that I look completely different from the way I use to look. My mom has even noticed the difference in me, and the most saddest thing ever, my boyfriend of 4 years has especially noticed this change. I want to go back to the way I was when I started high school. I was at 140, I think, when I started. I want to lose 20-50lbs. hopefully. I walk my dog every other day for 2 miles. I work at a hospital, so I'm always on my feet. I've measured how many steps I take, it came out to be over 2,000 steps a day. I only eat two meals a day, because I'm always busy. I've actually stopped drinking cokes, and now drinking lemonades, tea, or juices. I'm a full time student and I'm a full time employee. I never have the time to actually do anything, like stick to a weight loss plan. I've tried Lipozene, that didn't work out too well. I didn't lose anything. I'm not begging for anything here. I'm just asking for some simple help here. What's the best way for me to lose weight and keep it off? I would love to go back to the way I looked 5 years ago. That would be the best present I could give myself. So, can you help me out? Thank You for your time. Michelle

Hi,my daughter is turning 12 in January and she's 5"4 and weighs 146 pounds. Her friend that is really supportive came up to me and told me that my daughter needed to lose a good 20 pounds. My family is Jewish so she can't eat bacon and her bat mitzvah is in late December. I really want her to burn off at least 2 dress sizes. Please help her.
