History of Essiac or Esiak - Tinctures and Tea

In the mid 1920's, Rene Caisse was head nurse at the Sisters of Providence Hospital in a northern Ontario town.

While on duty, she was bathing an elderly lady and noticed that one of her breasts had a lot of scar tissue on it.

Upon questioning the lady, she learned that the women had advanced breast cancer 30 years earlier. The woman explained that she had met an old Indian medicine man from the Ojibway tribe who told her he could cure her cancer.

She said that she had no money at that time, and didn't want to have an operation anyway, so she went to see the Indian. He showed her certain herbs growing in the area and told her to pick them and make a tea and drink it everyday.

She had no reoccurrence of cancer to that day, 30 years later.

Rene was very interested in what the women had told her and she wrote down the names of the herbs. A year later, her aunt had been diagnosed with stomach cancer with a liver involvement. She asked her Doctor, R.O. Fisher of Toronto, for permission to try the herbs on her under his observation. Her aunt lived 21 years after being given up on by the medical profession. Rene Caisse, never claimed that Essiac cured cancer, but her goal was to control it and alleviate the pain.

From 1934 to 1942 she successfully treated thousands of terminally ill cancer patients in her clinic, many under the observation of a physician. Her own mother got cancer of the liver, and was immediately started on Essiac. She lived another 18 years.

Many doctors, surgeons, and scientists visited her cancer clinic, read case histories, and examined the patients. Many of them said they believed the Essiac acted upon the glands. It was able to bring back a balance to all the glands, and restore normal functioning.

Flor-Essence is an updated Essiac formula, with similar qualities as the original Essiac. Essiac is also known as Ojibwa, which is the name of the Indian tribe where the formula was originally developed.

What Essiac does. Essiac activates the body's own natural defenses without becoming habit-forming. Most patients experience less pain and overall improvement with the consistent use of Essiac and some patients continue to live for many years in good health. These four herbs, Burdock, Slippery Elm, Sheep Sorrel, and Turkish Rhubarb each have significant therapeutic effects on the body, and when they are combined, there is a synergistic effect. Essiac has the following benefits:

  • Helps to cleanse the blood
  • Normalize the enzymes
  • Promotes cellular repair, and aids effective assimilation and elimination
  • Regulates cholesterol levels by transforming sugar into energy
  • Makes bones and joints, ligaments, lungs strong and less vulnerable
  • Nourishes and stimulates the brain and nervous system
  • Expels mucus clearing the lungs
  • Helps eliminate heavy metal toxins in tissues (aluminum, mercury poisoning)
  • Purifies the blood
  • Increases red blood cell production
  • Protects the body against radiation damage
  • Helps destroy parasites in the digestive tract
  • Prevents the buildup of fatty deposits in heart kidney and liver
  • Assists the liver in producing lecithin, which forms the myelin sheath that encapsulates the nerve fibers.

Resources for Essiac Tinctures and Tea, Al Thuna Ojibwa Extract

Rene Caisse left the world an incredible legacy, by popularizing the "Miracle Ojibwa Formula." Many companies sell versions of this formula. Some call it Essiac, or Flor Essence. Al Thuna, our resident Master Herbalist worked with the original formulation to create our version of Ojibwa Extract. Mr. Thuna created this concentrated liquid form after we were deluged with requests from retailers, practitioners, and and users. The secrets to its success are simple.

Al Thuna demands that nothing but the finest quality herbs are used as the basis for his formula. Ojibwa Extract is absorbed into the blood stream faster and more efficiently than powders, drinks, teas, capsules, or tablets, because the formula is a low alcohol (20%) fluid extract. Ojibwa Extract contains no added fillers, flavors, colors, solid boosters or sweeteners.

Only herbs, pure alcohol and filtered water. Ojibwa Extract is manufactured in Canadian facilities that meet or exceed pharmaceutical Good Manufacturing Practices and Kosher Certification standards for quality, purity, and cleanliness. Try the best, you'll never go back. 1 To 2 Month Supply.

One thing that really upsets me about all the distributors of Essiac is that they all argue over what is the correct formula. Is it eight herb, or it four herb. Regardless of who claims to have the correct recipe, most manufacturers of the eight and four herb formula get one crucial element wrong. They are only using the aerial parts of the sheep sorrel plant, which are the stems and leaves. I have even seen one of the largest distributors of Essiac tea claim to use the whole plant. They go as far as to list where they actually get the herbs. To bad when contacting that herb company they use, that herb supplier will tell you they only use the aerial part of the plant. Claims, where is the documentation to back them up. Authentic Essiac is made with all parts of the sheep sorrel plant, which includes the roots. Rene Caisse has said this is extremely important many, many times in many publications. There is also certified documentation that also backs this up that is available to the public. As far as I know, there are only a few distributors that make it this way. Why don't more? Simple, if you harvest sheep sorrel this way, you can only get one harvest of the plant. One harvest equals less profits. Where is the caring in that?
