He is on the faculty at the Greater Good Science Center at the University of Berkley, and co-founded the Wellness Institute for Neuroscience and Contemplative Wisdom.

Dr. Hanson is the author of Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom (New Harbinger). He also writes a weekly newsletter, Just One Thing, and has a blog called Your Wise Brain.

Neurologist Dr. Richard Menduis is the other co-founder of the Wellness Institute for Neuroscience and Contemplative Wisdom. He began practicing meditation in the 1980s, and continues it today at the Spirit Rock Meditation Center in California. Dr. Medius teaches a weekly meditation class in San Quentin, California.
