Dear Berry B, Dehydration can aggravate or worsen tinnitus. You might want to make sure that you drink enough water each day, especially during the hot seasons and if you live in a dry desert area and if you sweat a lot. Some people have found relief from drinking alkaline ionic water, so you might want to give it a try and let us know if it helps you. Tinnitus has many causes and it is important to be tested by an EENT doctor to find the cause. Eat healthy foods, monitor your salt intake, and keep the stress level down. The herb ginkgo biloba has proven helpful for some cases of tinnitus, and acupuncture can be extremely beneficial. Good luck and let us know of your results.

Can dehydration affect tinnitus? I am used to the whistle and hiss of my tinnitus after seven years, but when my mouth is dry when I wake in the morning, possibly after I have eaten salty food, I have an additional droning sound which is quite engulfing. This gradually wears off as I drink lots of water but this is happening more frequently. Any ideas?

The recommended 8-8oz glasses of water is a MYTH and has been refuted repeatedly but continues to be promoted as dogma. The article in Scientific American is more accurate in my opinion, http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=eight-glasses-water-per-day.

May I know, what is the daily recommended hydration for a 14 years old girl? I had been told that it should be 2 liters but another person told me that it should be 2.3 liters. And yesterday I read that I should drink 3 liters in a day. Can someone help me, please?
