Benefits of Coconut Oil and Coconut Water

By Meera Manek

So what’s so great about these brown hairy things called coconuts?

When you eat real coconut it is a raw food and the milky substance found in the center is probably one of the healthiest liquids we can drink.

The benefits of coconut water tell us it is a number one source of electrolytes and a great sports drink.

The seed of the coconut consists of two major parts. When the coconut is young, the nut is almost a pure liquid on the inside and as it matures, we find more flesh accumulating around the perimeter. Now as this happens, it contains more unique fats and oils–anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-fungal fatty acids. Coconut oil health benefits make it an excellent choice to use when cooking or when creating raw food recipes.

Coconut trees, however, can only survive in particular climate – so coconuts grow best in an ocean climate. Each coconut weighs between 5 and 12 pounds and one coconut palm tree can have more than two dozen coconuts at one time.

When the coconut reaches a certain level of maturity, the water and hard flesh inside will become like a cotton candy ball. This yummy fleshy and creamy natural raw food is simply delicious and provides a wonderful natural ingredient for many of the best healthy recipes.

Huh, food for thought as I had never ever ever considered the coconut much less its water.

Being born and raised in the islands we ate coconut when it was green and when it dried. It is the best snack one could ever eat. We made coconut bread and cake, delicious. As I am writing I could taste my grandmother’s coconut bread and cake. Delicious!
