My 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with ASD PDD-NOS, GAD, IED, and ADHD when she was 3 years old. This disease or condition, whatever you want to call it, has devastated my life. I had a job at a hospital that I absolutely loved and was terminated during my FMLA, which I had taken to get her diagnosed. Her father, who is BiPolar, has left the home and has no contact with us, because he cannot handle her condition. No one wants to watch her or be around her for any significant period of time, and when I take her out in public, she is made fun of because she is still not potty trained, or people look at me like I am not doing my job as a mother. After one year, she is now showing signs of OCD and OOD. I have a pending suit against the hospital in Federal court, however, the stipulation is that I should be working or able to work. I am seeking employment that I can do from home as the area that I live in does not have availability of Title XX or other subsidies. The waiting list is atrocious, 2 years. I am a survivor and I will do what is necessary to take care of my children, however I wish that society was more understanding of this plight. Yes, there are people who want to take advantage of the system, however, I am not one of them. I am confident that things will work out for me and my three girls. I also know that I am doing the right thing by being here for them. My two year old has only had one series of shots as I am scared to death to have her immunized. My 13 year old is frustrated because society judges so harshly. I do need to add that I am at peace with where I am, for I am doing what my God intended for me to do. I just wish that the government and society were more supportive and willing to help, rather than try to hold us back. I know that things will work out for the best, so I will keep doing what I am doing and keep being there for my kids. Waiting for the Miracle.

It is so difficult to weight the pros and cons when the implication seems to be not so much for the whole group as for the individual child. I do worry that exposure to something might create additional illnesses and time lost in a school setting that could have additional and adverse effects on the child.

And isn't the option not to immunize by default an agreement to quarantine once you sign the required exception papers?
