Definition of Ayurvedic Body Typing Video

By Meera Manek

Ayurveda, the world’s oldest health care system dating back to over 5000 years, is made of two Sanskrit words, meaning “science of life.” Rather than providing a quick-fix solution by tackling the symptoms of a disease, Ayurveda’s guiding principle is to heal the body of the root cause of the problem.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has acknowledged Ayurveda as a safe and effective means of correcting common health problems. Not only are colleges in Britain and India now teaching this science, health care specialists in the US are also being taught Ayurveda.

According to the Ayurveda body types definition, every human body is governed by three primary qualities or principles called doshas, derived from the five elements. These are Vata (space and air), Pitha (fire and water) and Kapha (water and earth), and the Ayurvedic recommendations will vary according to a person’s doshas. It is almost unheard of for people to have equal proportions of all doshas and it is when these doshas fall out of balance that the body experiences energy loss, discomfort, pain, and ultimately disease.

Ayurvedic herbs are concentrated with phytochemicals, biologically active compounds naturally found in plants and which have a positive impact on health. Since it is far more beneficial to use the whole plant rather than just an isolated ingredient, Ayurvedic herbs are safer and more effective than western formulations, which often have harmful side effects.
