Infants who suffer from this problem seem to act and respond normally during the first few months after their birth, before less responsive signs to stimuli are recognized. Parents face problems in feeding or toilet training the babies. Infants neither smile in recognition of the parent’s face nor like it when they are cuddled. Once these infants become toddlers, it becomes apparent that they live in a world of their own as they show more signs of autism. They do not like playing with toys or other children and remain aloof.

Non-verbal or verbal communication skills like facial expressions and speech develop peculiarly in such kids. Autism symptoms range from mutism to prolonged stilted language or echoing. It is a condition in which children are not able to develop normal relationship with others. How often is Autism miss-diagnosis? Our Primary Pediatrician told us not to worry but a local new general practitioner sent us to a Medical college, and after a 1 hour interview and test we were told our 2 year old has mid-range Autism. I would think it would take more than that to diagnosis such an illness.

Dear Mike and Nawaz, I am sorry to hear about your child's diagnosis of autism. Autism is a very complicated and increasing problem amongst our children today. Since the symptoms vary in severity and type, it makes it even more difficult to diagnosis and to further pinpoint the exact causes for the problem. As the child grows, each child has their own level of developmental progress. Doctors are given a time-line for each stage of growth and development and use this guide for diagnosis. If you are not happy with the original diagnosis, you might want to take your child to another specialist in the field who could do further in-depth testing for you and your child. There have been many postulations about the causes for autism, but there is no definite consensus amongst the professionals. You should have your child tested for heavy metals by getting a hair mineral analysis done on your child's hair. If toxins are found, then naturopathic doctors may be able to help remove these substances. Also, allergies have been implicated in retarded development, so you might want to have your child tested for food allergies, including gluten intolerance testing and leaky gut syndrome. If there are any allergies found, then an special elimination diet might help to decrease the symptoms. Here is a link to a myriad of in-depth information about autism which may be helpful, including behavioral training, natural supplements, and other resources> Study on Autism . Also, children respond well to homeopathic remedies. A homeopathic practitioner would be able to prescribe an individualized remedy for your child based upon the symptoms and their severity. I sincerely hope that this information helps.
